A Thousand Splendid Suns: Part Two Pg. 95-114

  Part two begins in spring of 1987, now Mariam is twenty-eight years old. But part two does not mainly focus on Mariam and her life with Rasheed. It begins with the story of nine-year old, Laila. She is very much almost in love with her good friend, Tariq. Tariq had a terrible accident when the war was going on, he lost one of his legs, he replaced it with an artificial one. Her friends always tease her about it, that she likes a one-legged boy. Anyways, Tariq had to leave for thirteen days to Ghazni, to visit his uncle. She counted down the days until he came, even though she would always deny the fact that she misses him everyday.
  Since most of the girls get arrange marriages at a young age, Laila believes her dad would never give her away anytime soon. She always says she is pleased with the kind of dad she has. Laila is constantly reminded of how beautiful she is, and how special she is to her parents. But her mother never really shows it, since she always forgets about her. Every time she is reminded to pick up Lailia from school, she always forgets. As if she never really thinks about where Laila is. She is described of having shoulder length, blonde curls, and that she has her mom's thick eye lashes, turquoise green eyes, dimpled cheeks, and her high cheek bones.
  Laila is also very special to another somebody, Tariq. When they are always together, he is continuously watching over her. When he was gone, she was being teased by his friends. One night, Laila was walking back from school because her mom forgot to pick her up...as usual. Tariq's friends began following her with their water guns. She asked them to not spray her. Of course they did not listen. The water guns did not contain what it is meant to have. When they sprayed her, the friends told her to smell her hand. Laila didn't do as she was told, because she knew what it was. It was their urine. They took advantage her, because they knew if Tariq was there, they would never be allowed to do such things to her.

 So far part two is going well, but I have to admit, I did get annoyed on certain parts. When her mom forgot to pick her up from school, I got aggravated because of how much of a careless mom she is. Also, when the friends sprayed urine on her. But I adore the parts of Laila and Tariq, he is like her protector.
