Amir was now inside of the car with the child being taken to the hospital in Peshawar. Every part of his body ached him. All the people surrounding him were all asking him questions, but he could not answer because talking hurt him too. He did not know or remember exactly what he wanted to say to Sohrab, but he knew he wanted to thank him. He saved his life.
He than starts to see blurry images of people at the hospital. He first sees a girl named Aisha. She has grey hair, soft hands, and is wearing green clothing. He fades out. Amir then sees a man standing at his bedside. He recognizes him. Amir remembered that the man drove him somewhere. Then his mouth starts bubbling. He fades out. The women put potassium injection into his arm, so his arm began to burn. He fades out, again. This time when he fades out he started to remember all the memories with Baba. When he woke up he found out the man is Dr. Faruqi. He was a head and neck surgeon. As he tried to speak with the surgeon he could not because of all the tubes and wires inside his mouth. Now the doctor began telling him all his injuries. His spleen ruptured, seven broken ribs, punctured lung, orbital fracture on his right eyes eye socket bone, and various cuts on his body. His worst cut was on his lips. Amir's upper lip cut into two separate parts, but it was stitched back together, leaving only a scar. He was told he had to be on an all liquid diet. Nothing else.
Later that day, he received a letter from Rahim Khan, saying that he did not want Amir looking for him again and to forgive himself and Rahim. Sohrab stayed with Amir during the evenings at the hospital. They would play cards silently. No conversations. For now, Sohrab would not talk to Amir.
